So, you want to scale your business to the next level and decide to advertise on the biggest social media network. The good news is that you can easily launch your Facebook ads within minutes through the Meta platform. However, not every Facebook ad campaign is successful.
To avoid the chances of failure follow these 7 best practices to ensure a successful Facebook ad campaign.
1. Determine Your Objective
Like starting any project, you need to first determine your objective. Doing so will help Meta serve your ads to users who are likely to take your desired action. Currently, you can choose from 6 different objectives:
If your objective is Awareness, Facebook will try to show your ad to as many users as possible. Or if it’s Sales, your ad will be shown to users likely to buy your product or services.
What results do you want? More brand awareness? Leads, purchases, or app installs? Whatever it may be, it’s important to choose the right objective when setting up your campaign.
Marketing is all about getting your message to the right audience. This is where Facebook shines the brightest. With 3.07 billion users, finding the right audience couldn’t be easier with Facebook’s data on every individual. From basic demographics to intricate behaviors and interests, Facebook allow advertisers to choose and build their ideal audience.
For example, if you’re a home service company, you can target users who are homeowners between 30-65 years old, living in a 25-mile radius of your service area, and are interested in home improvements.
People scroll fast. Their attention is short. This makes it crucial for you to create ‘scroll-stopping’ ads. Ensure your images are eye-catching, videos are polished, and ad copies (message) are persuasive. Doing this will glue the user’s attention to your ads and even set you apart from the competition!
Tip: When reviewing your ad creative put yourself in the shoes of your potential customer. Ask yourself, would you stop and watch your ad's first 3-5 seconds. If yes, then would you watch the entire ad?
One advantage of advertising on Facebook is the ability to A/B test different versions of your ad. You can run simultaneous ads with varying headlines, descriptions, images, videos, or CTAs to determine the best combination. Let these ads run for at least one week then analyze for major differences in performance. However, test only one variable at a time in order to pinpoint what’s affecting your campaign. By the end of the test you’ll be able to identify which headline, ad copy, images, or videos will bring you the best results.
Did you know that 98.5% of Facebook users access the platform on their mobile devices? With this in mind, it's important to optimize your Facebook ads for mobile formatting. Ensure images are fitting properly, CTA’s are placed well, and the overall user experience is free from errors. Fortunately, Facebook offers an automated preview of your ad placements on various platforms to make editing easier. Failing to format your ads for mobile can lead to detrimental performance so always double check before publishing!
Sometimes it takes users seeing your ad more than once to make a decision. This is where retargeting comes in. By using user interaction data, Facebook can serve your ads to users who have already seen your ads or didn’t complete a purchase/action. In a sense, your ads will follow users on their explore page, in-feed, and on other platforms connected to the Meta network.
Note: Retargeting lists and data may not be available if your campaign is new. Make sure to give it ample time to gather data before employing this tactic.
Now, onto the fruits of your ad campaign! After at least one to two days, you can view the results of your campaign to track impressions, reach, clicks, leads, and costs. Running a successful Facebook campaign is not a ‘set it and forget it’ type of strategy which makes it crucial for you to regularly review and adjust your ads. If your ads aren’t serving enough consider increasing budgets or broaden targeting. If you’re not getting enough clicks check your ad copy and creative. For low conversions, see if your offer or landing page experience is well optimized. Not every Facebook campaign starts out perfectly but over time regular adjustments and monitoring can bring the results you desire.
